The Black Pick occurrence is located in the northeastern headwaters of You Creek, approximately 3.5 kilometres east-southeast of its junction with the Bedwell River.

The area is underlain by a batholith, composed primarily of quartz diorite, of the Early to Middle Jurassic Island Plutonic Suite. To the east, sedimentary rocks of the Mississippian to Lower Permian Buttle Lake Group and basaltic volcanic rocks of the Triassic Karmutsen Formation (Vancouver Group) are exposed.

Locally, a 5 to 23 centimetre wide shear zone hosts quartz-sulphide veins along the footwall of an east-northeast striking, steeply north-dipping, feldspar porphyry dike. The sulphide mineralization was not described but is likely similar to that of the You (MINFILE 092F 062) and Casino (MINFILE 092F 063) occurrences. The zone has been traced for a strike length of 150 metres. A weighted average of 10 channel samples, taken over a 37 metre strike length, is reported to have yielded 53.69 grams per tonne gold over a width of 0.15 metre (Property File - N.C. Carter [2000-06-19]: Re: Bedwell, You 1-8, Sharon Mae Expropriated Mineral Claims, Strathcona Park).

The area has been explored since the early 1910’s in conjunction with the nearby You (MINFILE 092F 062) occurrence. During 1984 through 1987, Kilo Gold Mines completed programs of soil and stream sediment sampling, geological mapping and prospecting in the area.
